This 2-day safari from Zanzibar to Nyerere National Park offers the perfect short escape into Tanzania’s wilderness. Day By Day Activities
After an early breakfast at your hotel in Zanzibar, transfer to the airport for a short flight (around 1 hour) to Nyerere National Park, formerly known as Selous Game Reserve. On arrival at the airstrip, your safari guide will meet you and give a short briefing about the park and the day’s activities.
Begin your adventure with a game drive in an open 4x4 safari vehicle, exploring one of Africa’s largest protected areas. Nyerere is famous for its untouched wilderness, diverse landscapes, and large concentrations of wildlife. As you drive through savannah, woodland, and along the Rufiji River, you will have a chance to spot elephants, buffalos, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, lions, leopards, wild dogs, and many species of antelope.
You will enjoy a picnic lunch in the park before continuing with an afternoon game drive, maximizing your chance of encountering predators and other animals in their natural habitat. Later in the day, you will head to your lodge or tented camp for relaxation, dinner, and overnight stay surrounded by the sounds of the African bush.

Wake up to the sound of birds and enjoy breakfast at your lodge. Afterward, head to the Rufiji River for a guided boat safari. This excursion offers a different perspective of the park as you glide along the waterways. You will get close views of hippos wallowing in the water, crocodiles basking on the riverbanks, and a wide range of birdlife such as kingfishers, fish eagles, and herons. The boat safari is also an excellent opportunity to capture breathtaking photos of the scenery and wildlife.
After the excursion, return to the lodge for check-out and transfer to the airstrip. Board your return flight to Zanzibar, arriving in the afternoon. You will be transferred to your hotel or continue with your onward travel arrangements.
