Ruaha National Park
Ruaha National Park is Tanzania’s largest national park, covering more than 20,000 square kilometers, and is part of a vast ecosystem that supports an incredible diversity of wildlife. It is located in central Tanzania and is known for its rugged scenery, rolling hills, baobab-studded landscapes, and the Great Ruaha River, which serves as a vital lifeline for animals during the dry season.
The park is home to one of the largest elephant populations in East Africa and offers excellent opportunities to see big cats such as lions, leopards, and cheetahs. Ruaha is also famous for its healthy population of African wild dogs, as well as buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, kudus, and many other antelope species. Birdwatchers will find it rewarding too, with more than 570 species recorded.
Ruaha is less visited compared to northern parks, giving it a wild and untouched atmosphere. Its combination of dramatic landscapes, abundant wildlife, and fewer crowds makes it a perfect destination for travelers seeking an authentic and off-the-beaten-path safari experience.
